Peyton Crochet Cardigan – FREE PATTERN

Peyton Crochet Cardigan - FREE PATTERN

Wear it with your favourite jean shorts in the Summer and over your coziest leggings in the Fall . . this modern + versatile cardigan is a wardrobe must have!  Its’ lightweight ‘texture-block’ design is both contemporary and comfortable.  Whether it’s for work or the weekend this sweater is easy to make using basic crochet stitches.  Scroll down for the free crochet pattern or purchase an inexpensive downloadable PDF from Etsy HERE or Ravelry HERE!

We’ve all seen the huge hit that was/is colour-blocking in the fashion world and this piece was inspired by that but with a twist.  I wanted the look of separate blocks but with texture (in this case an airy more open top half and a solid more dense bottom half).  It took some trial and error to get the look of each block just right but I’m so happy with how it all turned out.

I loved using Lion Brand’s Truboo for this cardigan.  It was my first time working with their dreamy 100% bamboo yarn and it was as drapey and soft as their website describes.  In fact Truboo yarn has such great drape that it took me MANY tries to get the proportions of this cardi just right . . the more I added rows of the solid the more the upper more airy rows would lengthen causing the location of the texture change to drop more and more.  I honestly can’t tell you how many times I had to make and remake this piece before I finally got the ratio right.  I’m proud to say that because of all the frogging you can be assured that even though the top half of your cardi won’t look long enough when you switch to the solid it will be by the time you get to your last row (the drape on the piece is AMAZING)!

You can get a kit for this pattern (yarn + pdf pattern + hook) on the Lion Brand webiste HERE!

I really wanted to create a piece that would transition from Summer to Fall but in the end I think this cardigan will work for every season.  It’s lightweight on top but the bottom half gives a more cozy feel.  Lion Brand’s Truboo yarn comes in 20+ colours so you could really have a lot of fun choosing what look you’d like for yours.  The ‘Silver’ and ‘Slate’ colours are at the top of my list!  (Again, you can grab the full kit HERE – yarn + printable pattern + hook)

I really wanted the pockets to be subtle.  I hadn’t tried this style of pocket before and was really pleased when the vision came to life (I was holding my breath because if it didn’t work out it would have meant a lot of frogging).  The pockets make this piece extra cozy and functional but don’t take away from the overall look (if anything I think they’re a simple and sophisticated addition).  That said, if you’d prefer for your sweater to have no pockets that’s an easy change up and the instructions include details on how to do that.

Alright, so, on to what you really came here for  ; )    . . . the pattern!
